Thorium reactor development MoU signed

Mumbai , Date 11: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU ) was signed between Mahagenco and Russia’s Rosatom government company Small Modular Reactor with Thorium Fuel at Sahyadri Guest House for the development of a thorium nuclear reactor in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Joint development of Thorium Reactor in Maharashtra , commercialization of Thorium Reactor as per safety norms of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB ), The main objective of this MoU is to set up an assembly line for Thorium Reactor under the “ Make in Maharashtra ” initiative. Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA ) will provide strategic support for the joint development of Small Modular Reactor with Thorium Fuel. All this work will be done as per the guidelines of the Government of India and the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB ).

A joint working group will work for this project through mutual coordination and study. Representatives of the organizations that have signed the MoU for this work , authorized representatives of Mahagenco , Rosatom Energy Project , Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (Mitra ) and Global Technology Alliance will be involved. While implementing this agreement, it is mandatory to follow all legal provisions regarding the use and development of nuclear energy and safety guidelines set by the Government of India .

On this occasion, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister’s Office Ashwini Bhide , Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi , CEO of MITRA Praveen Pardeshi , In-charge Additional Chief Secretary Energy Sanjay Khandare , Representative of Russia Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai Ivan Y. Fetisov , Representative of India and Rosatom in India Counselor of the Russian Embassy Yuri A. Lysenko , Director , Project Department (South and South-Asia Region) Alexandre Volgin , Project Manager of REP Dmitry Gumennikov , Director (Projects) Abhay Harne , Chief Engineer Atul Sonje , Co-CEO , Aman Mittal , Joint Secretary of MITRA Pramod Shinde , Joint Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy Nitin Javale , Kishore Mundargi of Global Technology Action were present on this occasion.
