Orange Gate tunnel should be accelerated: Fadnavis

Mumbai , Date 11: Priority is being given to the development of infrastructure as a concrete solution to the growing traffic problems in Mumbai. Against this backdrop, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is developing a civil road tunnel project between Orange Gate and Marine Drive. All the necessary permissions and supplementary measures are being taken for the implementation of this project. Currently, the initial work is in progress. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that time-bound planning should be done to give more momentum to this project . He also directed that the relevant agencies should work in coordination and complete the project on time .

A review meeting regarding the Orange Gate to Marine Drive project was held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He was speaking at the time. Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik , Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani , Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi, Metropolitan Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Sanjay Mukherjee , Special Commissioner of Police Deven Bharti , Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Vikram Kumar and others were present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said , this project is important to reduce traffic congestion on P. D ‘ Mello Road and create seamless connectivity with the Eastern Freeway and Atal Setu. Currently, the initial work is in progress and the work of tunnel boring machine, land transfer and pile foundation is going on at a fast pace. A revised technical proposal has been prepared in constant coordination with the Transport Department. The necessary improvements and expansion works at S. V. Patel Road and Marine Drive should be done as per the plan.

After the completion of this project, traffic congestion in South Mumbai will be reduced. Apart from this, the pollution level will decrease and the transport system will get a disciplined direction. This is an ambitious project that will give a new dimension to the transport system of South Mumbai and accelerate the development of the city in economic and geographical terms. After the completion of this project, the transport system in Mumbai will become more convenient and the time and cost of the passengers will be saved. Chief Minister Fadnavis also clarified that this project should be planned to be completed by December 2028.
